While I wish I could say my introduction to TTRPGs was an everlasting, eternal love, my first introduction came about in the mid-2020 pandemic. One of my best friends invited me to join an online one-shot they were playing in, and I decided it would be a fun diversion from home isolation. As an avid writer/reader of fantasy and a thespian at heart, I expected it to be a fun single experience and nothing more.
Yet from the first moments of the game’s beginning, that dragon sank its talons into me and set aflame a passion that burns bright to this day.
Shortly afterwards, I excitedly introduced my wife to the game in a homebrewed duet I ran for her. I botched nearly every rule imaginable during that session, but despite my egregious errors she too became enamored with the game. We then brought two of our other friends to the cause, playing through The Dragon of Icespire Peak before launching into a fully homebrewed campaign setting of my own design. And from each new session I learn something new to improve my craft.
In the years since, I have also found a happy medium with my other interests, contributing in several freelance projects to other producers of 5E content. This includes being a key contributor to The DM Lair’s Lair Magazine, their dual compendiums of Lairs and Legends and Loot and Lore, and most recently Lead Writer on their recent Secret Art of Game Mastery book. I now develop my own tools and materials that will help game masters bring a little more drama to their TTRPG games.
